Here’s your Performing Taraweeh At Home Practical Guidelines.
How many raka’at (ركعة) or single units of the prayer to perform?
You may choose to perform from 8 to 20 raka’at of Taraweeh prayer. This is not including the Witr Prayer.
Each set of prayer is to be performed with 2 raka’at. Meaning, if you choose to pray 8 raka’at you’ll have to perform 4 sets of prayer. Wait, isn’t that confusing?
Here’s how:
1st raka’at – Recite Al-Fatihah and any surah of your choice.
2nd raka’at – Recite Al-Fatihah and any surah of your choice; end it by turning your head to right, and then left.
Now repeat this 3 times more if you’re doing 8 raka’at of Taraweeh.
I saw the Imam in the masjid reciting some zikr.
Yes, but it’s not compulsory. You can always perform zikr on your own or make du’a instead.
Do I have to perform the Witr Prayer?
Scholars have different opinions regarding the Witr Prayer.
If you feel it’s too much, you don’t have to perform it.
How about the surah reciting? I haven’t memorised any.
That’s okay too. If you managed to memorise a verse, recite it repeatedly every raka’at.
If you haven’t been able to memorise any, simply recite bismillah (بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ) !.
Or, if you know how to read the Quran, open it in front of you and read it directly!
That’s it!
Now you’re good to go.
